BEFORE THE CLASS
How to prepare for the class?
One does not need any special equipment to do yoga. During my classes, yoga mats are provided so all that is needed is some loose, comfortable clothes. Yoga is always practised barefoot. It is advisable not to eat a large meal 3 hours before the class and not to drink just before the class.
What to keep in mind during the class?
Yoga is a technique of self- development. While practising, one should focus entirely on the sensations inside his body and trust the hints the body is giving him. It is better to close the eyes whenever possible, to be more 'inward'. One should never be indifferent to his own body and stop doing the asana when the pain can be felt. The ideal asana is when one feels relaxed while in it. One should not tense the muscles which he does not need to be used in this particular moment. Instead, one should release all the tensions in the muscles and focus on breathing.
The importance of relaxation
Probably the most difficult part of yoga is a proper relaxation, especially the final 10- minutes long relaxation at the end of the class. The visualisation methods helps to relax specific parts of the body but after that one will be left on his/ her own in complete silence. Ideally, during this time one should stay awake but stop thinking about anything in particular and just focus on breathing.
